NRCS EQIP 2007

The Natural Resources Conservation Service administers the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). This federal cost share program assists landowners to put soil and water conservation practices on the ground.  Landowners who own at least 20 acres are eligible for EQIP. Itasca County has $100,000 to offer eligible landowners contracts to install grazing practices such as fencing, water systems, wells and pasture seeding.  Other eligible practices include tree planting, site preparation for tree planting, weed control in existing tree plantings and application of products to prevent browsing on pine seedlings. The program is structured to assist landowners with forestry, grazing, cropland, and wildlife management priorities.

The application period for EQIP 2007 is December 4, 2006 through February 28, 2007. All applications will be scored after February 28, 2007, and those applications selected for funding will be offered EQIP contracts shortly thereafter. Interested landowners should contact:  Mike Oja, District Conservationist-Itasca County at 218-326-6595 or mike.oja@mn.usda.gov
